A new way of fetal monitoring is offered through the Avalon CTS - it allows the patient to be monitored without cables.  The fetal monitoring system consists of cordless ultrasound, Toco, a receiver base station and ECG transducers.  Avalon CTS uses RF technology for wireless transmission (WMTS in the US). It interfaces the full current range of Philips Series 50 fetal monitors, and the very large number of Hewlett Packard/Philips Series 50 fetal monitoring systems installed worldwide.

During labor and delivery and in the antepartum period the Avalon CTS is designed for use.  The transducers are cordless (no cords attached to the patient), waterproof and lightweight (only 120 grams or 4.23 oz).  This means that patients can be continuously monitored while bathing, showering or ambulating giving the mother more choices of birthing positions.

Features

- Recharged in the receiver station in less than 2.5 hours, the transducers use built-in lithium ion batteries which give 16 hours of continuous operation.
-Reliable parameter signal quality, with a line-of-sight operating range of up to 100M/300 ft.
-Visual and audible alerting
- Smart battery management ensures rapid "top-up" charging at any time, even when the base station is in stand-by, with no memory effects
-Flexible, intelligent channel management for automatic radio frequency allocation, allowing transducer exchange between different base station docking slots without affecting transmission and ensuring optimum use of the radio frequency band.
-Interfaces to the Series 50 family of fetal monitors from Philips, Agilent and Hewlett-Packard

Benefits

-With minimum visible technology, Avalon CTS improves the mother's comfort during fetal surveillance.
-Increased flexibility and convenience for patients with normal labor and deliveries
-The clinician will appreciate the lack of cable clutter, allowing for more convenient cleaning and handling of the hardware.  Even when under water, the clinician is assured that the mother continues to be monitored. Its long battery life and simple recharge reduces the hassle factor.
